Wastewater Treatment Plant

Our History

AquaVenture Holdings was formed in December 2006 with the objective to build or acquire, own and operate desalination and wastewater treatment plants. We focused on providing potable water and wastewater treatment services to what was considered a fragmented and underserved market in the Caribbean islands. The founding team included Douglas Brown, our current Chairman of the Board of Directors, and several of his former colleagues from Ionics, Inc., a publicly-held water company that was acquired by General Electric in 2005.

In 2007, AquaVenture’s initial financing occurred, which was immediately used to complete the acquisition of what is currently our Seven Seas Water U.S. Virgin Islands operations. Later that year we completed the acquisition of a water business in St. Maarten, which provided us with our first long-term government contract.

Over the next several years, Seven Seas Water expanded its presence into additional Caribbean islands such as The Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Curacao and Trinidad. In addition, Seven Seas Water saw significant organic growth driven by contract amendments requiring expanded water production capacity due to higher demand from its customers.

In 2014, AquaVenture acquired all of the assets of Quench. This acquisition provided us with a more diversified water service offering and extended our geographical footprint into North America. Soon after the acquisition, Quench acquired all of the assets of Atlas Water Systems, which expanded Quench’s presence in the northeast United States and made us a market leader in our sector in the greater Boston area.

Seven Seas Water Plant

In 2015, Seven Seas Water expanded its presence in the Caribbean with the acquisition of a desalination facility at Paraquita Bay in the British Virgin Islands. With this acquisition, Seven Seas Water gained its ninth desalination facility across eight Caribbean islands, strengthening its position as a leading provider of desalinated water in the Caribbean.

On October 5, 2016, our initial public offering was declared effective and we began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WAAS. Since becoming a public company, AquaVenture has continued to grow its businesses through both solid organic performance and the completion of strategic acquisitions. From 2016 through August 2019, we completed 17 acquisitions, which deepened our capabilities in the wastewater treatment and water reuse industries, increased our participation in the point-of-use market, and expanded our geographical presence.

Our Strategy

We believe that we are well positioned to capitalize on global growth opportunities driven by population growth, increasing urbanization, climate change and water scarcity, increasing focus on health and wellness, and the environmental impact of bottled water consumption. We believe our focus on delivering best-in-class service and efficiency to our customers will continue to lead to substantial new business, contract extensions and customer expansion opportunities.

We also have a demonstrated track record of identifying, executing and integrating acquisitions. Since our formation, we have strategically completed acquisitions that have enabled us to extend our geographic presence, broaden our service offerings and expand into additional markets.

We are led by a talented management team with extensive industry experience, engineering knowledge, operational expertise and financial capabilities. Our Seven Seas Water team currently operates our 11 water treatment facilities and previously designed and operated more than 100 desalination plants with Ionics, Inc. Our Quench team has grown our company-owned point-of-use installed asset base from approximately 11,000 units in 2009 to approximately 150,000 units today through organic growth and targeted acquisitions.
